Granby, December 19, 2016 – Zoo de Granby, surrounded by many friends and partners, today inaugurated its newest endeavour for the 2016-2017 winter season: A new refrigerated skating rink has been set in the heart of our zoo’s Village. Working with its partners Synerglace Canada, the 300 m2 ice surface will be accessible from December 26 to March 12, despite the whims of Mother Nature. Adjacent to the new facility, an authentic Mongolian Yurt serves as locale for skating equipment rentals, as well as for the sale of some restaurant items. Even Yowie the Yeti will be on the ice every day at 2:00 p.m., weather permitting.

The Zoo in Winter means 90% of the animal collection at 50% of the summer rate!
The Zoo in Winter has been in operation for the past 10 years, offering young and old a uniquely magical experience!

Did you know that our animals live at the zoo all year round? Since the majority of our animal collection is made up of exotic species found mainly in Africa, South America and Oceania, the zoo’s visitors are astonished to discover that many of them truly appreciate the winter months! Many species were selected for their ability to endure the cold because of the general harshness of our own Quebec winters. We tend to forget that different areas in Asia and South America also see their temperatures drop below zero several months during the year. Therefore, Zoo de Granby shelters animals that adapt well to our climate: the Japanese Macaque, the Amur tiger and leopard, the snow leopard, yaks, the Himalayan Thar and bear, etc. These animals remain outdoors in winter and are beautiful to admire in the snow! As for our other animals, although their natural habitats are not northern, their adaptation to the cold is still quite possible. This is true for our zebras; just as horses, they grow a thicker coat allowing them to withstand much colder days.

So, we dress warmly this winter and if it snows we switch from baby carriages to sleighs! It’s truly an ideal opportunity to see 90% of the animals of the zoo, at 50% of the summer rate!

Winter Rally and Animated Encounters

All along the paths, visitors are invited to participate in a rally about how animals adapt to winter. Through 12 interactive stations, guests will be able to test their knowledge by taking on different challenges, by answering questions and by using their senses to find answers! At our Discovery Hut, Alcide will be ready to have his picture taken from noon until 3:00 p.m. Our public animators will also be returning for about twenty days during the winter.

The Holiday Season at the zoo with the Super Wings!

Throughout the Holidays, from December 26 to January 8, Super Wings Jett and Dizzy will be on hand to meet with the little ones at the Village and at the rink. In collaboration with Import Dragons, our younger clientele who collect their miniatures and follow their adventures on television, will be amazed by these popular characters.

Testimonials

First time visiting here on our annual summer week in Québec. We went for the 2 day family pass, and had an amazing time. The 2 days allowed us to take our time around the park, and gave plenty of time as well for cooling off at the Amazoo. We'll definitely come back!

Amazing place to take the family! Lots of animals to see, amazing water park and fun rides. Great packages available with hotels close by for out of town visitors. Highly recommend!

Paul Winch

Our whole family attended yesterday. It was absolutely spectacular. We had a fantastic time! Thanks for the memories!

We love going to the zoo. (…) Most of the animals were out and the grandkids were thrilled. I'd never been to the Dinozoo before and I thought it was pretty cool especially with the movement and sounds. The design is great in that it's seperated and all goes back to the center.

Stephen Eyton-Jones

Amazing place. Perfect for the whole family. They constantly improve their environments and animals collection.

Boris Kosov

What a great time. Would definitely go again. The zoo care takers are amazing at what they do and so friendly. I would recommend if you have never gone it's a bucket list. Oh and don't forget to go and pet the sting rays.

Jamie Krichtoff

A good place for family outing with zoo, water park and rides all at one place. All the attractions are conveniently placed very close to each other. Food court is good too and you can also bring in your lunch.

It's the 3rd year in a row that my family and I visit this Zoo. Even though it was during the busiest day they had this year, we were able to visit everything and fully enjoy the experience. Don't forget to bring your bathing suit cause they have an amazing wave pool!

Éric Trudel

We had an excellent time! We have not been in over 10 years and are so glad we went! The park is clean. The food was well priced for a theme park. We loved the Dinozoo! We have terrible French speaking abilities but appreciated your courteous and friendly staff, we felt welcome!

Bonnie Diane

Our family absolutely enjoyed our day! There was so much to do! Park was very clean and staff was very friendly and helpful with any questions!!! We plan on going next year and making it a weekend trip so that we can enjoy the whole park!
