The Meerkats Welcome Quintuplets!
Last month, Juno, our female meerkat, gave birth to five pups. The young are in excellent health.
Did You Know that?
- Females give birth inside the burrow and it takes a few days for the pups to make their first outside appearance.
- The gestation period lasts about 11 weeks, that is from 73 to 77 days.
- On average, females give birth to between two and five pups per litter.
- Weaning begins when the young are 3 weeks old and doesn't exceed 6 to 9 weeks. They therefore become autonomous at a very young age.
