Conservation and research

Patrick Paré

Director, Conservation and Research

Patrick holds a Bachelor's and a Master's Degree in Biology. Over the past 35 years, he has developed extensive expertise in zoology, environmental education and wildlife conservation. He joined the Zoo de Granby in 2002, where he now heads the Conservation and Research Department after more than 10 years at the helm of the Education Department. 

Patrick is also a researcher affiliated with Concordia University. He served as president of the Order of Biologists of Quebec from 2014 to 2018 and sits on numerous joint committees involving Quebec conservation organizations.

His work involves managing and collaborating in conservation and scientific research projects in natural habitats, both in Québec and internationally. His areas of expertise: recovery plans for endangered species, social marketing strategies, conservation planning, project and funding management.

The team

Louis Lazure

Research Coordinator

Louis obtained his Doctorate in 2024. He also has two Master's degrees in biology. He’s responsible for supervising and promoting scientific research carried out at the zoo, and within the framework of species conservation. His specific field of study covers bats, which has also led him to become involved in their preservation on different levels. His areas of expertise: mammals, animal behaviour and scientific research in zoology.

Véronique Bellavance

Conservation Coordinator

Véronique has both a Bachelor’s and a Master's degree in ecology. She coordinates a wide range of projects in which the conservation of endangered species and their habitats is a top priority. Her work focuses on the restoration of natural habitats, recovery of the spiny softshell turtle, public stewardship and awareness raising. Her areas of expertise: biodiversity on private lands, wildlife installations management and the spiny softshell turtle!

Chelsey Paquette

Conservation Coordinator

Chelsey holds both Bachelor and a Master's degree in ecology. With a solid background in research and conservation, she coordinates various projects aimed at preserving endangered species and their habitats throughout Québec. Most of her activities involve working with various municipalities for the preservation of bird species. Her areas of expertise: the Chimney Swift and the Wood Turtle!

Mélissa Loiseau

Conservation Project Manager

Mélissa holds a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree in biology. She specializes in the conservation of endangered species, both in Québec and internationally. Active in the field, she carries out numerous inventories and development work. Among other things, she’s involved in a project to re-establish the spiny softshell turtle and participates in missions to Cameroon. Her areas of expertise: The turtle breeding program and international ecology!

Audrey Maynard

 Conservation Project Manager

Audrey has a technical diploma in bioecology and a Bachelor's degree in ecology. She has established herself through her fieldwork experience and in identifying Québec wildlife, notably birds. At the Zoo, her work includes chimney swift and wood turtle conservation projects. Her areas of expertise: Applied ecology, communicating scientific information to the general public and bird banding!
