Social Dimension

Social Dimension

Pursuing our activities while respecting individual rights and in accordance with the principles of equity

Whether it concerns our visitors or our employees, the Zoo de Granby has put in place the necessary mechanisms to promote inclusion, accessibility, well-being and equality.

HEALTH AND WELL-BEING

The Zoo de Granby is constantly looking for solutions to meet the needs of its visitors and employees. In order to adapt its infrastructures and activities, the Zoo collaborates with various organizations working with clients with special needs(e.g., Kéroul).

The Zoo has established an OH & S and well-being committees for its employees and has increased opportunities to communicate with them while striving to maintain harmonious relationships, notably by offering a range of social activities outside of work hours.

Our Employees

Zoo employees are subject to a code of ethics and have the opportunity to join numerous joint committees to express ideas, suggestions and opinions. An internal communication system and a bi-monthly newsletter also serve to ensure that communication channels remain fluid and accessible to all members of the organization.

COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION

The Zoo de Granby is a present and active corporate citizen in its community. The organization is concerned about the impact of its activities on its neighbours and works with the city authorities on various projects to enhance public spaces and improve our operations. For example, in association with Action Emploi, the Zoo receives about ten people annually in an employment integration program.

Also, since 2018, the Zoo de Granby has been lending some twenty volunteer employees for targeted activities within its community: cleaning up the banks of the Yamaska River, sorting items donated to SOS dépannage, etc.

EDUCATION AND RAISING AWARENESS

Have all our visitors become stakeholders for our mission

Reaching more than 650,000 people annually through its various services, the Zoo de Granby provides an extraordinary forum for awareness and education about biodiversity conservation. When the Zoo is open to the public, more than twenty activity modules led by biologists or animal care technicians are offered to visitors. These focus on the most spectacular aspects of the animal kingdom and also highlight the Zoo's actions in terms of animal well-being.

Have the present generation become our ambassadors for the future

Furthermore, every year, our naturalist-interpreters meet with nearly 45,000 participants, mainly schoolchildren, to discuss how we can improve our wildlife's quality of life and conservation issues. Our different workshops allow audiences to learn more about the biology of certain animals and their ecological role, but most importantly they encourage participants to become active in protecting them.
